When I first saw (and swooned over) this gorgeous artwork, its airborne and wearable ribbons of wood brought to mind the iconic furniture of Alvar Aalto. The artistry of sculptor Carley Brandeaux, a UNC Asheville and Art Institute of Chicago graduate, and the furniture design of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto have wonderful things to say to each other. Both have created for art the body; Carley adorns it with loops and bends, Aalto seats it on curvy, figure-conforming chairs.

Check out more of Carley's artwork here. I learned of her through another Asheville artist, whose work is equally as mesmerizing, and I'll show you that soon. I went to Artek for the chair photos because they are the licensed source for authentic Alvar Aalto design. (This is not a sponsored post.) If you'd like to see more of Aalto's work, you can click around here.
Hope you see the beauty, too ... enjoy!
